Best WordPress Plugins – Short List of Essential Plugins I Recommend

January 12th, 2009 · 6 Comments · Wordpress Issues: Installation, Upgrade, Themes, Widgets, & Plugins

Here are several Essential WordPressâ„¢ plugins that you should find most useful. Keep in mind that WordPress future updates will often incorporate a plugin into their core functionality thus rendering the separate plugin unnecessary.

The first two are useful for frequently updating WordPress.

1. One Click Plugin Updater

2. WordPress Automatic Upgrade

3. No Revisions
Disables post revisions in WordPress 2.6+ to keep saved posts from clogging up your database. They must be removed from the DB by hand, but this plugin will deactivate the auto-save feature.

4. bs-wp-noversion
Removes the WordPress Version to prevent targetted attacks and version fingerprinting.

5. Simple Link Manager Plugin
by Teli Adlam

Teli Adlam is a good person to become acquainted with. If you buy one of her products you can join her support forum.
( It seems this product is no longer available. )

6. Redirection
When you change the permalink URL of a post, you should provide a 301 redirect to it in case you have people linking to the old address.

    Hi Jerry,

I followed your link above to “Simple Link Manager Plugin” and bought it… BUT!!

    1) I was not redirected to a download page.

    2) the page that I was redirected to required login details and said they are exaclty as printed in the confirmation email – WHICH I NEVER RECEIVED.

    3) I’ve been emailing the site owner for 2 days now using their contact page and have had no reply.

    4) I emailed the address in my paypal receipt: luckythreemedia@gmail.com and WOW!! my email bounced right back to me with the following error message:

“This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification

Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently:

    luckythreemedia@gmail.com

    Technical details of permanent failure:
    Account disabled”

    5) the reason I’m letting you know, is so you can remove the link from your post and not cause anyone else to lose their hard earnt money.

    AND

    6) If you’re willing to email me the plugin I can email you proof of purchase.

    OR

    7) If you know of some other place I may be able to purchase a real downloadable copy, please let me know!

    Thanks!

Steve, thanks for posting and I’m very sorry that Teli has been unresponsive to your purchase. I’m sure PayPal will refund your purchase since the product was not delivered. I’ll take that link off my post, but I do not have another recommendation for you at this time.

However, there are other link managers available. Use Google and search for WordPress plugin link manager.

I suggest to use free PHP IDE Codelobster PHP Edition with special WordPress plug-in.

I also found a good link manager plugin alternative by Garrett Murphey on the website of wordpress.
